The Las Vegas Raiders have hired two new assistant coaches, both of whom have significant connections with head coach Pete Carroll.
With offensive coordinator Chip Kelly hired on Sunday, the Raiders were able to begin the process of building a staff around him to help rebuild the offense.
On Monday, the Raiders agreed to deals with two assistants to help out.
The first is a name familiar to Raiders fans, as former offensive coordinator Greg Olson has returned for a third stint with the organization. According to The Athletic’s Michael Silver and Vic Tafur, Olson will serve as quarterbacks coach.
Veteran assistant coach Greg Olson is heading back to the Raiders–again–as the QB coach on Pete Carroll’s staff, @VicTafur and I have learned. He’ll work under new OC Chip Kelly. Olson was the Raiders’ OC for their most recent playoff appearance in 2021.

Olson worked with the Raiders as offensive coordinator during the tenures of former head coaches Dennis Allen and Jon Gruden, not being retained either time when the coaches left. He has recently served as quarterbacks coach with the Seattle Seahawks in Carroll’s final year with the team.
With the Raiders looking to find an answer at the quarterback position this season, Olson will be tasked in some capacity with the development of whoever the team adds to the roster.
The Raiders also agreed to a deal with Pete’s son Brennan Carroll, according to Big Ten college football analyst Yogi Roth. The younger Carroll has been named as offensive line coach and running game coordinator.

Carroll was recently the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at the University of Washington. He has also worked in various positions for the University of Arizona, University of Miami and USC.
Carroll also has pro coaching experience under his father, working with the Seahawks as an assistant offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Clearly, the elder Carroll bringing his son into his new coaching staff is a sign of his belief that Brennan is the man for the job.
The Raiders will continue searching for new assistants, but Olson and Carroll mean there are two less spots to fill.
