The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels came up with their second-straight win against the San Diego Aztecs with a 76-68 victory.
This was their first win against San Diego State since 2020.
Guard Dedan Thomas, Jr. came up big for the Runnin’ Rebels, scoring 19 points and dishing out five assists. Brooklyn Hicks added 13 points and Jaden Henley scored 12 points.
The Runnn’ Rebels are now 11-7, 5-2 in the Mountain West and are tied for third in the conference in the standings.
The Runnin’ Rebels held the lead for most of the game, including the whole second half.
Miles Byrd scored 21 points, all of them scored in the second half, to lead San Diego State. Nick Boyd added 16 points, and BJ Davis scored 10 points.
The Runnin’ Rebels managed to stifle any attempt at a run by the Aztecs, including at the end of the game. Byrd sunk a three-pointer with two minutes left in the game.
Thomas, Jr. took over by driving down the lane and tossing an ally-oop to Jeremiah Cherry.
The Runnin’ Rebels return home to host Wyoming on Tuesday at 8 p.m. and New Mexico on Saturday at noon.
