LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Raiders showed plenty of fight Sunday afternoon, but another disappointing finish left head coach Klint Kubiak searching for answers. Despite battling back from a 10-point deficit and pushing the Buffalo Bills to the final moments, the Raiders suffered a heartbreaking 33-30 defeat at Allegiant Stadium, extending their losing streak to three games. For Kubiak, the frustration wasn’t simply about losing. It was about another missed opportunity.
“Very disappointed that we didn’t get it done today,” Kubiak said. “Credit to Buffalo, they played a great game. As a team, we did not close the game and there’s plenty of improvement. We’re not satisfied with any moral victories.”
After suffering a 28-point defeat against the New England Patriots the previous week, Las Vegas delivered a much more competitive performance. However, penalties, missed red-zone opportunities and costly mistakes continued to plague the Silver and Black.
Ashton Jeanty Finally Finds the End Zone
The Raiders opened the game with an encouraging offensive possession behind quarterback Kirk Cousins. Cousins distributed the football to four different receivers before rookie running back Ashton Jeanty powered into the end zone from one yard out.
The touchdown marked Jeanty’s first rushing score of the season and gave Las Vegas a 7-3 advantage. Jeanty finished the opening drive with 22 scrimmage yards and continued contributing throughout the first half, totaling 63 yards from scrimmage before halftime.
The Raiders entered the break tied with Buffalo after two field goals helped erase a six-point deficit.
Third-Quarter Mistakes Prove Costly
Las Vegas struggled to maintain its momentum after halftime. Three consecutive incompletions from Cousins resulted in a quick three-and-out, allowing Buffalo to regain control.
The Bills followed with a field goal before linebacker Dorian Williams intercepted Cousins on a pass intended for Michael Mayer. Josh Allen capitalized on the turnover with a spectacular 12-yard shovel-pass touchdown to Keon Coleman, extending Buffalo’s advantage to 10 points.
Kubiak pointed to the Raiders’ inability to sustain drives as a major turning point. “Every game has adversity, the game’s not over in the third quarter when you go three-and-out, but it really kills momentum,” Kubiak said.
Tre Tucker Sparks Late Comeback
Despite trailing, the Raiders refused to surrender. Cousins orchestrated a 91-yard touchdown drive, connecting with Brock Bowers for significant gains before finding Tre Tucker in the end zone to tie the game at 23.
However, Buffalo running back James Cook responded with another productive possession, eventually scoring a rushing touchdown to put the Bills back ahead. After Buffalo extended its lead to 33-23, Cousins connected with Tucker on a spectacular 44-yard touchdown pass.
It marked Tucker’s third career game with multiple touchdown receptions. Unfortunately, the comeback ended when Buffalo recovered the ensuing onside kick.
The Raiders finished just 2-for-5 in the red zone, leaving valuable points on the field. “We’re 2-for-5 in the red zone and that’s unacceptable and that starts with me,” Kubiak admitted.
Defensive leader Maxx Crosby also acknowledged the team’s inability to generate takeaways. “We were taking the ball away early in the season a lot, we haven’t done that the last couple of weeks,” Crosby said. “I put that on us and as a leader, it starts with me.”
When asked how the Raiders could end their losing streak, Kubiak offered a simple response. “Close. Games. Out.” Las Vegas will attempt to do exactly that next Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
For the Raiders, the message is clear: competing against talented opponents is encouraging, but until they learn how to finish, close losses will continue defining their season. The Silver and Black proved they can compete with Buffalo. Now they must prove they can win when the game is on the line.
