DETROIT — The Vegas Golden Knights are beginning to find ways to win again, and Thursday night provided another example of their ability to deliver when it matters most.
Trevor Connelly scored the game-winning goal with just 1:42 remaining in regulation, lifting the Golden Knights to a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Trailing early in the third period, Vegas responded with two unanswered goals to secure its second consecutive victory and improve to 11-5-2 on the season.
Braeden Bowman scored the equalizer for the Golden Knights, while goaltender Carter Hart delivered another solid performance, finishing with 25 saves. The victory came in the third game of Vegas’ four-game road trip and provided another important two points for a team looking to regain its offensive consistency.
Connelly Delivers in the Final Minutes
With the game tied 1-1 and overtime appearing increasingly possible, Connelly delivered the decisive moment. The Golden Knights forward broke the deadlock with 1:42 remaining in the third period, giving Vegas its first lead of the night.
The late goal capped a third-period comeback after the Golden Knights had spent much of the contest searching for an offensive breakthrough. For Vegas, Connelly’s game-winner demonstrated the importance of finding timely scoring contributions throughout the lineup.
The Golden Knights have experienced stretches of inconsistent offensive production this season, making every scoring opportunity particularly valuable. Connelly’s late-game heroics allowed Vegas to escape Detroit with a hard-fought victory despite managing only two goals.
Bowman Sparks Third-Period Comeback
The Red Wings struck first when Anton Johansson scored at 2:02 of the third period, giving Detroit a 1-0 advantage. With the Golden Knights trailing and time becoming increasingly important, Bowman provided the response Vegas desperately needed.
At 4:20 of the final period, Bowman scored to tie the game at 1-1, erasing Detroit’s lead just over two minutes after the Red Wings had opened the scoring. The goal shifted the momentum back toward Vegas and set the stage for Connelly’s late winner.
Although the Golden Knights were unable to generate much offense through the first two periods, their ability to respond quickly after falling behind proved critical. Instead of allowing Detroit to build momentum, Vegas answered and remained within striking distance until Connelly delivered the decisive goal.
