A’s Ballpark Vision for Las Vegas Strip Takes Shape

The Oakland Athletics’ proposed 33,000-seat ballpark in Las Vegas may be part of a larger resort on the former Tropicana Hotel site. The stadium is planned for the center of the now-vacant 35-acre property, owned by Bally’s Corporation.

The Tropicana Hotel, an iconic Las Vegas landmark, was imploded in the early hours of October 9, 2024. The implosion marked the end of an era for the historic property, which had been a fixture on the Las Vegas Strip since its opening in 1957. Over the years, the Tropicana became known for its mid-century charm, attracting visitors with its lush tropical themes, vibrant entertainment, and signature shows. However, as part of Las Vegas’ continued transformation and modernization, the decision was made to demolish the property to make way for new developments, like the Athletics new stadium.

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is set to approve the A’s proposed development, along with non-relocation and lease agreements, at a Dec. 5 meeting, according to president and CEO Steve Hill, as reported by Akers.

Following their final game at the Oakland Coliseum, the A’s are without a permanent home and plan to play at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento until the Las Vegas ballpark is completed, which is expected to take three MLB seasons.
The Tropicana Hotel was demolished on October 9, clearing a significant hurdle for the stadium’s construction. New renderings reveal plans for a 30,000-seat stadium with an additional 3,000 standing-room-only spaces.
