On Thursday, the New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers will play a third game in their Wild Card Series.

Tonight, we have a winner-take-all matchup, and the winner will clinch a spot in the National League Division Series against the Phillies.

New York Mets

The Mets were about an inning and a half away from eliminating the Brewers last night. They had a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning before reliever Phil Maton allowed two homers in the inning to surrender the lead.

The Brewers took a 5-3 lead and won the game. The heart of the Mets lineup failed to get on base against the Brewers closer Devin Williams.

The Mets will turn to pitcher Jose Quintana today. He’s been pitching very well of late. In his last six starts, he’s only allowed three earned runs.

The wrinkle in this one is that as well as Quintana pitched this last month, he struggled against, you guessed it, the Brewers. He allowed five hits and two runs in four innings.

The lineup for the Mets will need to come through for them in this one and I believe they will. Every time this Mets team has been counted out and had their backs against the wall, they’ve answered the call.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers made a tremendous comeback to force this third game in the Wild Card series. 20-year-old Jackson Chourio’s two home runs were crucial to their win yesterday. His second home run tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Brew Crew have been a good team at home this season, compiling a 47-34 record. In addition to Chourio playing well, Brice Turang has also been hitting the ball well. He’s on a five-game hitting streak.

The Brewers will send Tobias Meyers to the mound in this pivotal third game. This season, the rookie had a 9-6 record with a 3.00 ERA.

Their bullpen has been a strength this season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn to it today if Myers struggles early. They were second in the league in bullpen ERA at 3.11.

For the Brewers to win, they’ll need contributions from everyone in their lineup. William Contreras and Rhys Hoskins must show up in a big way for them tonight.

Mets-Brewers Best Bet

These teams are familiar with each other and I believe this is going to be essentially a coin-flip game. As much as I would like to fade the Mets after that atrocious blown lead, I am not convinced by this Brewers offense.

The Brewers seem to have the momentum but I just doubt they can continue to shut down the Mets lineup. I’m expecting Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso to drive in some runs today.

Oddsmakers have priced the Brewers as favorites in this matchup and I disagree. I am seeing +110 odds in the marketplace for the Mets. With those odds I’m taking the Mets to eliminate the Brewers and advance to the NLDS.

Will the Mets sweep the Brewers to advance to NLDS?
