A lot of people questioned why the Raiders drafted Brock Bowers after they moved up in the draft the previous year to draft Michael Mayer in the second round. At the end of the day Bowers was the best player available. No potential franchise quarterbacks were available so by rule of thumb, you have to draft the best player available. That player indeed was Brock Bowers and the potential of him in the Raiders offense is endless.
Broken silence
Since the draft nobody has heard from Mayer until Saturday. At the Raiders’ Business on a Course golf event at Las Vegas Country Club, Mayer broke his silence.
“He’s fast. He’s got great hands. He can block. He can do it all, I feel like we can both do it all,” Mayer told Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Saturday. “I think we’re gonna be dangerous, I think we’re gonna have a great offense. That’s kind of all I’ve got to say about it. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
“Our job is to win ballgames,” said Mayer, who had 27 catches for 304 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. “As an offense, we need to score touchdowns. And that’s what we’re going to do to the best of our ability.”
