Katie Taylor is finally getting the homecoming she has dreamed about throughout her legendary career. The undisputed junior welterweight champion will return to Ireland on September 5 for a historic showdown at Croke Park in Dublin, fulfilling a lifelong goal while putting herself in position to become a three-time undisputed world champion.

For Taylor, the announcement represents more than just another title fight. It’s the realization of a dream that once seemed impossible. “We did it,” Taylor said during Friday’s official press conference. “We’ve actually brought boxing back to Croke Park. Amazing. This was on my career bucket-list, this was beyond my wildest dreams.”

Katie Taylor has long spoken about her desire to headline a major event in Ireland before retiring. While she previously fought twice at Dublin’s 3Arena where she suffered the lone defeat of her professional career against Chantelle Cameron before avenging it six months later Croke Park always represented the ultimate destination.

The 82,300-seat stadium is considered the spiritual home of Irish sport and one of the most iconic venues in Europe.

“This was an impossible dream a few years ago,” Taylor said. “This will be the most iconic moment of my whole career. I have the chance to fight in a packed-out stadium the cathedral of Irish sport.”

For one of Ireland’s most celebrated athletes, there could hardly be a more fitting stage for what is expected to be the final chapter of an extraordinary career.

Flora Pili Lands Career-Changing Opportunity

Standing across the ring from Katie Taylor will be undefeated French contender Flora Pili. The WBC recently ordered Taylor and Pili to fight for its vacant 140-pound championship, and the unbeaten challenger now finds herself preparing for the biggest night of her professional career.

Pili enters the contest with a perfect 12-0 record and arrives in strong form following a career-best victory over Serbia’s Jelena Janicijevic last December. She also serves as Taylor’s IBF mandatory challenger, making the matchup a natural fit as Taylor attempts to regain a title she never lost inside the ring. Already one of the most accomplished fighters in boxing history, Taylor now has an opportunity to add yet another remarkable achievement to her resume.

With Derby’s Sandy Ryan currently recognized as champion in recess due to pregnancy, the title picture shifted in Taylor’s favor. A victory over Pili would move Taylor one step closer toward becoming a three-time undisputed champion, further strengthening a legacy that already places her among the greatest female fighters of all time.
