MGM Resorts remains in active discussions about bringing a potential NBA expansion team to Las Vegas. This is according to the company’s CEO.

During Wednesday’s quarterly earnings call, Bill Hornbuckle provided an update on ongoing discussions with the league. In particular, the talks concern the future of T-Mobile Arena.

“We have been asked how we would position T-Mobile for any and all bidders, and we are working on that with our partners at AEG and [Vegas Golden Knights owner] Bill Foley,” he said. “We are open to all comers, and there has been extensive interest in Las Vegas.”

When asked about MGM’s broader strategy, Hornbuckle declined to share specifics, citing confidentiality agreements. However, he indicated that T-Mobile Arena could serve as a temporary home court.

“T-Mobile is part of that conversation,” he said. “Whether short-term or long-term, all roads lead to it for now because the league has expressed interest to host a team as early as 2028.”

Hornbuckle emphasized that the NBA will make the final decision on expansion and expressed hope for a resolution by early 2027.

“We are excited. How could we not be?” he said. “We have all seen the success and what it means to Las Vegas when these sports teams come.”

Located across from New York-New York and Park MGM, T-Mobile Arena has served as the Golden Knights’ home since its 2016 opening and recently hosted the NBA’s in-season tournament semifinals and championship games.
