LAS VEGAS — David Benavidez is stepping into new territory and doing it comfortably. Ahead of his highly anticipated showdown with Gilberto Ramirez, Benavidez weighed in at 196.8 pounds, more than three pounds under the cruiserweight limit for Saturday night’s main event at T-Mobile Arena.

It marks the first time in his 12-year professional career that Benavidez has come in below a contracted weight a sign that his move up in divisions may be a natural fit.

Title Opportunity at Cruiserweight

Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs), who hit the scale at the full 200-pound limit, will defend his WBA and WBO titles in a blockbuster main event broadcast via Prime Video and DAZN.

For Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs), this is more than just a debut it’s a chance to become a three-division world champion. The Phoenix native previously held the WBC title at super middleweight and currently reigns at light heavyweight. Now, he’s looking to add cruiserweight gold to his résumé.

Betting Odds and Stakes

Oddsmakers see Benavidez as the favorite. DraftKings lists the unbeaten 29-year-old at nearly 4-to-1 odds to defeat Ramirez a reflection of his relentless pressure style and rising pound-for-pound status.

Currently ranked No. 7 by The Ring Magazine, Benavidez is widely viewed as one of the sport’s elite and the top contender for Dmitry Bivol at 175 pounds.

Styles and Experience

While Benavidez brings youth, volume, and aggression, Ramirez enters with experience at the higher weight. The Mexican southpaw is 4-0 at cruiserweight since moving up in 2023, showing comfort and power in the division including his ability to carry strength late into fights.

This clash presents a compelling dynamic:

  • Benavidez: Pressure, volume punching, undefeated momentum
  • Ramirez: Size, experience at 200 lbs, championship pedigree

The Bigger Picture

Saturday’s fight isn’t just about belts. It’s about trajectory. A win for David Benavidez could:

  • Launch him into three-division champion status
  • Expand his dominance across weight classes
  • Set up future mega fights at either 175 or 200 pounds

For Gilberto Ramirez, it’s about defending his ground against one of boxing’s most dangerous rising stars.
