Bill Haney Calls for Devin Haney–Rolly Romero Unification on Ryan Garcia–Mario Barrios Card

Bill Haney is trying to crash Ryan Garcia’s party. The father and trainer of newly crowned WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney has publicly called for a unification fight against WBA titleholder Rolando “Rolly” Romero on the same February 21 card where Ryan Garcia is set to challenge WBC champ Mario Barrios.

Haney vs. Romero. Garcia vs. Barrios. Three belts. One night. One division. That’s the play Bill is pushing.

Why wait on Ryan again?

Bill took to X and laid out the case in classic Haney fashion direct, strategic, and with a little pressure on everyone involved.

“Ryan lost to Rolly on May 20. Now he’s fighting Barrios in February. Rolly hasn’t fought since May, and Devin just became champion in the same division. So why wait on Ryan again? Devin can fight Rolly ‘NOW,’ same day, same card, unification. True or False?”

Former champ Jamel Herring co-signed the concept, calling it a “stay-busy” fight for Devin. Bill fired that back out to his followers with a clear message:

“A hell of a champion has spoken. Now let’s make this unification happen. We ready.”

Team Haney wants it. Team Rolly almost certainly says yes. Now it’s on the networks and power brokers to decide how big they really want February 21 to be.

Why Rolly? Why now?

Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) is fresh off a disciplined, composed win over Brian Norman Jr. in Riyadh to claim the WBO welterweight title and become a three-division champion.

Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) hasn’t fought since dropping Ryan Garcia and beating him by unanimous decision earlier this year in New York. That win gives Rolly real leverage, and real value, in the Ryan/147 conversation.

From the Haney side, Rolly checks every box:

  • He’s a current champion (WBA).

  • He’s a recognizable name off the Garcia win.

  • He’s wild, unpredictable, and tailor-made to sell a buildup.

A win over Romero turns Devin into a two-belt welterweight champion overnight and sets up monster business for later in 2026 whether that’s Garcia, Barrios, Benn, or someone else with a strap.

The Ryan Garcia factor

All of this plays out on the backdrop of Ryan Garcia’s own redemption story. Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs, 1 NC) is scheduled to face Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) for the WBC welterweight title on February 21. He’s trying to rebound from a loss to Rolly Romero and a turbulent year that included a no contest against Haney and a pile of controversy.

If the Haney–Rolly unification lands on the same card:

  • Ryan is no longer the lone storyline.

  • The card turns into a mini welterweight tournament in one night.

  • The post-fight callouts practically write themselves.

You could walk out of that event with:

  • One man holding two belts, and

  • Another holding the third,

  • And a built-in narrative for a massive unification later in 2026.

What’s next?

Right now, this is Bill Haney throwing the first punch in public.

  • Rolly is inactive but free.

  • Devin is healthy and coming off a big win.

  • Ryan and Barrios are locked in.

  • Turki, the networks, and the promoters have every ingredient for a mega-card if they want it.

If the powers that be are serious about stacking February like a Riyadh-style event on U.S. soil, Haney–Romero on the Garcia–Barrios card is exactly the kind of move that flips a big night into a historic one.
