On Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders got the Pete Carroll era off to a flying start with a 20-13 win over the New England Patriots.

Riding an excellent first game from quarterback Geno Smith (362 yards, one touchdown, one interception) and a strong defensive effort in the second half, Carroll won his first game on the sideline since his last season with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. Throughout his legendary coaching career, Carroll has used his ‘always compete’ approach to great success, winning national championships and Super Bowls along the way. Now with the Raiders, he hopes to create a culture of excellence that he has built elsewhere.

With his victory against the Patriots, Carroll made a bit of NFL history in the process.

Carroll continues to prove why he is one of the most legendary figures in football.

According to the NFL on CBS, Carroll became the oldest head coach in NFL history to record a victory at 73 years and 357 days old.

With the 1-0 record to start the season, Carroll has the Raiders starting off in the right direction.

Also joining Carroll and the Raiders in the Week One win column from the AFC West are the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos. The only divisional rival that did not win were the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost to the Chargers on Friday in Brazil. As a result, the Raiders find themselves in great shape as they hope to build off of a great result.

The next chance Carroll will get to beat his own record will come on his 74th birthday, when the Raiders face the Chargers in their home opener on Monday Night Football.
