On Wednesday night the Las Vegas Aces (6-7) begin their first back-to-back homestand against the Connecticut Sun (2-12) at 7pm PT at the Michelob ULTRA Arena.
A’ja Wilson needs just 7 more points to reach 5,000 career points for her career. Wilson will be the quickest to reach 5,000 and the second youngest to reach the milestone.
In their 89-81 win against the Indiana Fever on Sunday, June 22, it was a tale of two A’jas. In the first half, Wilson struggled to get a good look in the paint but in the second half, she was able to come alive and achieve better looks.
Aside from Wilson, the Aces have attempted to find balance with their three big stars in Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, and Jewell Loyd.
Jackie Young is averaging a career-high 18 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. Chelsea Gray has averaged 14.2 points per game this season. Sunday, Gray went 8-for-12 from the floor.
Jewell Loyd got a slow start this season, but it seems as if she’s found her stride. Loyd is shooting a career-best 41.3 % from the three-point line. Loyd is scoring 11.5 points per game.
Rookie Aaliyah Nye has made her presence felt every time she comes it with impeccable three-point shot. Nye is averaging 66.7% from behind the three-point line.
Leading the Sun is veteran Tina Charles. Charles is averaging 16.1 points per game. Guard Marina Mabrey adds 15.2 points per game.
The Aces are 25-33 all-time against the Sun. They are 15-14 at home against the Sun. Dating back to 2022, the Aces have won 8 out of 10 meetings against Connecticut.
