Seven Vegas Golden Knights will represent their countries when the NHL hosts the 4 Nations Face-Off from Feb. 12-20. The tournament will feature a round-robin stage where all four teams will play each other before moving to a winner-take-all championship game between the two teams with the best records.

The Golden Knights will send the second most players to the event, trailing the Florida Panthers, who had eight.

Sweden

Of the seven players, only one will represent a European squad. Forward William Karlsson will play for Team Sweden for the second time. He was a part of the Gold Medal team at the 2017 IIHF World Championships.

USA

Defenseman Noah Hanifin will join fellow Massachusetts native Jack Eichel, who was named to the Team USA roster on June 28 at the NHL draft, on Team USA. Hanifin has donned the red, white, and blue three times in his career (2016, 2017, 2019) and has spent a season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

Canada

Unsurprisingly, the Golden Knights will send four Canadians to the 4 Nations, as forward Mark Stone, defensemen Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore, and goalie Adin Hill were all named to the Team Canada roster.

Stone will be a part of Team Canada for the third time, medaling in 2016 (Gold) and in 2019 (silver) at the World Championships. Theodore joined him in 2019, making this the second Team Canada stint for the British Columbia native.

Pietrangelo is also an experienced member of Team Canada, having worn the Team Canada sweater in the 2014 Olympics and 2011 World Championships.

Hill won a gold medal as part of Team Canada in the 2021 World Championships.

How It Impacts The Golden Knights

The Golden Knights will send 30 percent of their roster to the 4 Nations Face-Off instead of getting two weeks off to rest and recuperate.

Theodore said playing a maximum four games in that eight-day stretch isn’t bad especially if he’s representing his country.

“I took a peek at the schedule. It’s only four games,” Theodore said. “Obviously, sometimes the break is always good for guys midseason, but it’d be an honor to play.”
