Back in 2018, a woman accused MMA fighter, Conor McGregor of sexual assault. The woman was recently awarded about 250,000 euros or $260,000 USD in damages when a jury found him liable for sexual assault this week in a civil lawsuit she filed against the fighter.
As reported by The New York Times, Nikita Hand, the woman who filed the lawsuit and accused him of the assault, spoke briefly after court on Friday, encouraging other victims of sexual assault to “speak up.” She then added, “You have a voice.”
According to documents obtained by The New York Times related to the lawsuit, McGregor met Ms. Hand during a time of his newfound fame and wealth. Ms. Hand and McGregor come from the same part of Dublin. It also alleged in other documents related to the case, that the incident occurred in early December of 2018. Conor McGregor exchanged messages via Instagram with Ms. Hand and the two agreed to see each other. Court documents also mention that both parties used cocaine before seeing each other. Ms. Hand said in court documents that McGregor “beckoned” her to come to the bedroom. After kissing McGregor, she refused to go any further with any sexual activity. It is alleged and reported by various media outlets that when she tried to fend him off, he then put her in a “chokehold three times” and then he raped her.
According to the New York Times, Conor McGregor went through a criminal investigation in connection with the assault allegations in his home country of Ireland, but he was not charged. Since being found liable in the civil case, McGregor plans to appeal the ruling
