ATLANTA — Claressa Shields will make history Saturday night at State Farm Arena, but one of the most unpredictable fights of the weekend might happen well before the undefeated boxing superstar steps into the ring.
Shields returns Saturday, August 15, against Kaye Scott in the main event, becoming the first woman to headline a boxing event at State Farm Arena. But the undercard has generated its own buzz thanks to a celebrity grudge match few could have predicted: Ray J vs. Orlando Brown.
After months of public back-and-forth, the two entertainers will finally get an opportunity to settle their differences inside the boxing ring. Unlike some celebrity boxing matches manufactured solely for entertainment, there’s already legitimate bad blood behind this one.
The rivalry reached another level during a press conference in June. With tensions rising between the two, Brown slapped Ray J across the face with a wad of cash, immediately turning what could have been a novelty matchup into something considerably more personal.
Now they’ll have gloves on. The confrontation has helped generate attention around a fight that adds an unusual entertainment element to a card built around one of women’s boxing’s biggest stars.
Ray J Looking to Bounce Back
Ray J also enters Saturday’s fight looking for redemption. His previous trip into the ring didn’t end particularly well, as he was stopped by Supa Hot Fire in May.
That gives Ray J something else to prove beyond simply settling his dispute with Brown. For Brown, meanwhile, Saturday presents an opportunity to back up months of talking when there are no security guards or press conference tables separating the two.
Ray J vs. Orlando Brown: How to Watch
Ray J and Orlando Brown will meet Saturday, August 15, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. According to promotional materials, Zeus Network coverage begins at 4 p.m. The celebrity matchup will be featured during the early portion of the event before coverage transitions to the DAZN boxing card later in the evening.
That means fans tuning in exclusively for Shields’ historic appearance could get something entirely different beforehand.
