The Vegas Golden Knights are hosting their annual “Dad’s Trip” this season when the team travels to Anaheim and Salt Lake City.
“It’s a great concept,” Vegas forward Jack Eichel said. “Obviously, just getting the opportunity to share what we do, our lifestyle, and all the beautiful perks of playing in the NHL with the people who helped us get here. More than anything, it’s great quality time. It’s funny you see some of the dad’s bit of resemblance, whether it be looks or personality with guys on the team. It’s a lot of laughs, and they really enjoy it. We really enjoy it and look forward to it every year.”
Playing before the dads has been a boon to the Golden Knights. Vegas is 9-0-1 with a plus-27 goal differential during that stretch.
“Lots of energy. Lots of smiles. The dads are looking forward to seeing their boys play live,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “So do the coaches. Every year, they bring us a lot of good fortune.”
Meanwhile, Cassidy offered little on team captain Mark Stone’s status.
“Mark’s not in right now,” Cassidy said.
Stone missed the past two games with a lower-body injury. Nicolas Roy is projected to continue playing on Eichel’s right wing.
About the Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks enter today’s matchup off a 4-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday. The Golden Knights won the first meeting between the two teams on Oct. 13, a 3-1 victory.
“The first period was terrific,” Anaheim coach Greg Cronin said after that game. “That’s the way we are supposed to play. In the second period, we kept turning pucks over. Over and over again. When that happens, you end up defending most of the period. Then you get tired legs. Then you can’t really counterattack. We got caught in that spin cycle the whole second period.”
The Ducks have won three straight games against Vegas on their home ice.
Troy Terry leads the team in scoring with 11 goals.
