Aces drop third straight game
Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, with the Aces leading the Lynx 31-29. Minnesota shot 64% from the field in the quarter, while the Aces shot 57% from there.
Megan Gustafson provided a huge spark for the Aces off the bench, scoring 8 points in the first quarter. Gustafson shot a perfect 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from three in the quarter.
The Aces offense struggled in the second quarter, shooting only 5-15 (33%) from the field and 2-8 (25%) from three.Minnesota outscored the Aces 30-17 in the second quarter to take a 59-48 lead at the half.
The third quarter was much the same, with the Aces struggling to make shots, going 4-14 (28%). The Lynx would outscore the Aces 19-12 in the quarter, leading by 18 at 78-60 entering the fourth quarter.
The Aces cut the deficit to 11 with a Sydney Colson layup with 6 minutes remaining but were unable to come any closer. Minnesota went on to outscore the Aces 17-14 after that, and the Aces lost 100-86.
All five Lynx starters finished in double figures scoring led by Alanna Smith with 18 points on 7-9 shooting and 4-6 from three. Minnesota finished the game shooting 00% from the field and 00% from three.
Kayla McBride scored 16 points, Courtney Williams and Bridget Carleton each ended with 15. MVP candidate Napheesa Collier struggled shooting just 4-13 but finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
The Aces had four players in double figures, led by A’ja Wilson with 28 points. With another 20-plus point game, A’ja Wilson extends her streak to 15 games in a row.
Kelsey Plum struggled from deep, going 3-11 from three, but finished with 13 points and four assists. Megan Gustafson ended the game 4–5 from the field, with 11 points, while Tiffany Hayes finished with 10.
The Aces will be on the road again Thursday, traveling to Phoenix to face the Mercury in their final Commissioner’s Cup match. Prime Video will broadcast the game, which tips off at 7 p.m.
