Why This Weekend Will Rule For Both UFC And Boxing

@Joe Camporele-USA Today Sports

This weekend should be excellent for both UFC and boxing fans. For the MMA world, there’s UFC 301, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday. For boxing fans, Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia is going down that same day.

The festivities start at 8:00 PM PST at T-Mobile Arena, where the undisputed super middleweight champion will take on the undefeated Munguia. Las Vegas does get a big fight on that weekend, which will pack the city.

UFC 301 will happen at the same time, with the main card happening at 7 PM PST at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The card pays homage to the country’s contributions to the MMA realm, with a card loaded with the country’s fighters.

It should be a huge weekend for combat sports fans. First, a fight between a legendary fighter and an undefeated challenger awaits. Then, a quality card that honors Brazil’s MMA history comes in. Here’s why this weekend will be fun for all fighting fans.

UFC 301 and Canelo Vs. Munguia Features Excellent Talent

For the main card of UFC 301, there’s plenty of solid talent around. Notable veterans such as Jose Aldo and Anthony Smith are competing in Rio de Janeiro. The Farmasi Arena will be rocking as fans will watch the local heroes take on the world’s best MMA fighters.

For Canelo vs. Minguia, it brings back memories of boxing’s glory days. Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman comes to mind with this fight, with the undefeated fighter taking on the sport’s greatest. It’s a callback to a memorable era for many boxing fans. Speaking of which…

Both Events Honor Their Sports

As mentioned earlier, UFC 301 honors Brazil’s contributions to the MMA sphere. With a stacked card of Brazilian fighters, it honors legends like Anderson Silva and their accomplishments. That’s the same instance with Canelo vs. Munguia, only it honors the aforementioned golden era of boxing. With a compelling storyline and a legend to tell that story, fans should be enticed to watch.

Both fights can give a nostalgia rush for combat sports of all walks this Saturday. Whether it’s the old-school boxing fan who loved watching Joe Frazier or the Brazilian MMA fan, Saturday will be an epic weekend for the fighting world. Drink up and kick back, fighting fans. This will be fun.

Note: Both times have been updated with the correct times.
