UNLV women’s tennis head coach, Kevin Cory, recently announced that the 2024 season will be his last.

The announcement comes in the midst of his 25th season with the school. His 393 wins, as of Feb. 17, are the most in UNLV and Mountain West history.

He has coached the Rebels to 13 championships, including six regular-season and seven tournament championships.

That’s more than any other school during that span.

“It has truly been an honor to serve as the women’s tennis coach at UNLV for 25 years,” he wrote in a statement. “I feel very fortunate to be able to lead this special program but it’s time to end this incredible journey after the season. We have so much to be proud of, both in the classroom and on the tennis courts.”

UNLV hired Cory on Aug. 17, 1999. He went 15-9 in his first season — including the school’s first-ever Mountain West Women’s Tennis Championship. Since then, it has been nothing but consistency for his crew.

They’ve won at least 20 matches six times over the past 24 seasons — including a 24-2 season in 2016. Three years later, the team went 18-7 while winning both the MW tournament and regular season championship. It’s the only time he won both in the same season.

And speaking of the MW championship, the Lady Rebels are searching for their seventh straight appearance this year — having made it in each of the past six seasons.

“I want to thank all of the amazing student-athletes who chose to come to UNLV and gave everything they had for the Scarlet & Gray,” he added in his statement. “I’m looking forward to making one more run this spring – and then always being a grateful supporter of UNLV.”

What’s Next for Kevin Cory and the Lady Rebels?

The UNLV women’s tennis team lost both of their matches to start the season, but have won their past five and are now 5-2 overall.

Their next match is on Sunday (Feb. 18) against the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

The Mountain West tournament begins on March 15, with the Championships beginning in late April. There’s still a lot of tennis left this season, but it’ll be the end of the road for one of UNLV’s most accomplished coaches.
