PWHL Las Vegas has named Kim Weiss as Head Coach for the team’s first 2026-27 season. Weiss comes after two seasons with the Colorado Eagles, the AHL partner of the Colorado Avalanche. There she became the second woman in AHL/NHL history to work as a full-time Assistant Coach.

“I am thrilled to welcome Kim Weiss as the first Head Coach of PWHL Las Vegas,” said PWHL Las Vegas General Manager Dominique DiDia. Throughout her coaching career, Kim has consistently demonstrated an exceptional ability to develop players. In addition, she can build strong team cultures and achieve success at the highest levels of the game.

Her accomplishments across both the NCAA and AHL speak for themselves. Her hockey expertise and communication skills make her one of the most respected leaders in the sport. Having played alongside her in college, I have seen firsthand the character, integrity, leadership, and competitiveness that define her. Moreover, her values align perfectly with the culture we are building in Las Vegas.”

Weiss’ History

Weiss began with the Eagles as a video assistant and was promoted to assistant coach in 2026. While she was there, the Eagles won the Pacific Division title in 2025 and made it to the Calder Cup Playoffs twice. This included a seven-game Western Conference Finals against the Chicago Wolves in 2026. ” It is an honor to become a head coach at the highest level of the women’s game, and I am excited to join PWHL Las Vegas,” said Weiss.

Before joining the Eagles, the Potomac, MD native was an assistant coach for the Trinity College Men’s Hockey team in 2023-24. She became the first woman in this role in NCAA Division III men’s hockey. The Bantams finished 25-4-1, won the NESCAC title, and reached the National Championship game. Weiss also coached with the Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL. She moved from assistant coach to associate head coach and helped the team win its first NAHL East Division Championship in 2023.

Earlier, she was director of player development and head coach for the Washington Pride girls’ AAA program. She has helped with USA Hockey’s player development and coaching education and has worked with the U.S. Women’s National Team.

As a player at Trinity College, Weiss was teammates with DiDia for three years. She earned NESCAC All-Conference honors each season and set program records for career points and goals as a forward. In her junior year, she helped lead the Bantams to their first NCAA Division III Championship Tournament appearance.

Weiss participates in the NHL Coaches Association Female Coaches Program, which supports women through skills development, leadership strategies, communication, networking, and career advancement opportunities.
