Bolte goes 5-for-5 but Aviators fall 7-4 as Saints cash in early

Bolte 5-for-5 and a homer shy of the cycle, but St. Paul’s early five-run third and Orlando Arcia’s two homers send the Aviators to a 7-4 loss at Las Vegas Ballpark.

Henry Bolte did everything he could Thursday night. It still wasn’t enough.

Bolte went 5-for-5 with two home runs, a double and a triple, accounting for three of Las Vegas’ four runs in a 7-4 loss to St. Paul at Las Vegas Ballpark. Despite his career night, the Aviators dropped to 19-16.

Bolte homered in the third and seventh innings, then tripled in the ninth and scored on Tommy White’s two-out single to briefly extend the game. He finished a homer shy of the cycle and recorded half of Las Vegas’ 10 hits to push his batting average to .329 on the season.

Third-inning swing

The Saints seized control in the third. After a fielding error opened the door, Gabriel Gonzalez lifted a sacrifice fly, Kyler Fedko lined an RBI triple and Orlando Arcia followed with a two-run homer to right-center. Suddenly, St. Paul led 5-0.

Las Vegas answered in the bottom half when Bolte launched a solo shot to right-center. In the fourth, Cade Marlowe tripled and scored on Bryan Lavastida’s groundout to trim the deficit to 5-2.

However, Arcia struck again in the fifth, blasting his second homer of the night to push the lead to 6-2.

Jump battles, bullpen taxed

Left-hander Gage Jump worked 4 2/3 innings and allowed six runs, five earned. He battled through traffic but surrendered two home runs and a key triple during St. Paul’s third-inning surge.

Nick Hernandez and Ben Bowden steadied the middle innings, while Matt Krook handled the seventh and eighth. Still, the Saints added an insurance run in the eighth when Arcia singled home Fedko to stretch the lead to 7-3.

Late push falls short

Bolte’s second homer of the night in the seventh cut the deficit to three. Then in the ninth, he tripled with two outs and scored on White’s RBI single to make it 7-4. Nevertheless, Joey Meneses popped out to end the game.

St. Paul improved to 18-18 behind Arcia’s two-home-run, three-RBI performance. The Saints totaled 10 hits and capitalized on defensive miscues and timely power.

Up Next

The series continues Friday night at Las Vegas Ballpark. Right-hander Baker (2-2, 9.42 ERA) is scheduled to start for St. Paul, while right-hander Kade Morris (3-1, 3.76 ERA) takes the ball for the Aviators. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
