The Las Vegas Aviators led Sacramento 2-0 when weather halted Friday night’s game at Las Vegas Ballpark. Play stopped after 2 1/2 innings.
Las Vegas scored both runs in the first. Ryan Magdic also worked through heavy traffic to keep the River Cats scoreless.
The game will resume Saturday at 5:05 p.m. PDT. The regularly scheduled game will follow after a 30-minute break.
Dickey delivers the early lead
Darell Hernaiz and Michael Stefanic singled in the first. Joey Meneses then moved both runners with a groundout.
Jared Dickey followed with a two-out single to left. Hernaiz and Stefanic scored to give Las Vegas a 2-0 lead.
The Aviators threatened again in the second. Cole Conn walked and advanced to second on a balk.
Colby Halter then singled Conn to third. Hernaiz walked to load the bases, but Stefanic grounded out to end the inning.
Magdic works through traffic
Magdic allowed six hits and one walk across three scoreless innings. He struck out two and threw 53 pitches, including 38 strikes.
Sacramento loaded the bases with two outs in the first. Magdic escaped when Will Brennan popped out in foul territory.
The River Cats threatened again in the second. Aeverson Arteaga singled before Marcelo Mayer doubled to right.
Dickey started the relay from right field. Hernaiz then fired home to Conn, who tagged out Arteaga and preserved the shutout.
Magdic worked around two more singles in the third. Brennan popped out to Drew Swift to end the inning.
Weather remains a factor
Inclement weather forced officials to suspend the game after Sacramento completed the top of the third.
Las Vegas will resume play Saturday at 5:05 p.m. PDT with its 2-0 lead intact. AccuWeather forecasts a chance of thunderstorms around 4 p.m.
Temperatures should remain in the mid-90s around the scheduled resumption. The chance of precipitation drops later in the evening.
After the suspended game ends, the teams will take a 30-minute break. The regularly scheduled game will then be played over seven innings under Minor League Baseball rules.
