LAS VEGAS — David Benavidez didn’t just win he made a statement. Benavidez captured two world titles in a third weight class Saturday night, overwhelming Gilberto Ramirez and forcing him to quit after six brutal rounds. Ramirez possibly suffered a broken bone in his face forcing him to quit. With the victory, Benavidez continues his rise across divisions and immediately set his sights on the biggest names in the sport.

Facing a naturally bigger opponent, Benavidez didn’t rely solely on power. Instead, he showcased a full arsenal speed, movement, and elite punch selection breaking Ramirez down round by round. “I knew I wasn’t going to out-power him,” Benavidez said. “So I used speed, movement, punch selection, and IQ.”

Despite the dominant finish, Benavidez showed respect for Ramirez after the fight. “I love Zurdo Ramirez, but it is what it is.”

Canelo Callout Ignites Crowd

Moments after the stoppage, Benavidez turned his attention to Canelo Alvarez, who was in attendance. “Do you guys want to see Canelo vs David Benavidez?” he asked drawing a massive reaction from the crowd.

David Benavidez has long pursued the fight, dating back to their time in the super middleweight division, where Alvarez previously dismissed him as not being a big enough draw. “I respect Canelo… but I’m a great champion too. Let’s do it.”

Bivol Still the Top Target

While the Canelo fight would be the biggest commercially, Benavidez made it clear that Dmitry Bivol remains his top competitive target. “Bivol’s No. 1 on my hit list… I just want to test myself every single fight.”

Benavidez still holds the WBC title at 175 pounds, making a unification clash with Bivol who controls the remaining belts one of the most compelling fights in boxing.

What’s Next?

The immediate path forward remains complicated:

  • Canelo Alvarez is expected to face Christian Mbilli in September
  • Dmitry Bivol is scheduled to defend his titles against Michael Eifert on May 30

Still, David Benavidez’s performance may force the boxing world to reconsider timelines.

The Bigger Picture

With this victory, David Benavidez has:

  • Won titles in three weight classes
  • Strengthened his pound-for-pound case
  • Positioned himself for multiple mega fights

And after dismantling a champion like Ramirez, one thing is clear: He’s no longer chasing the biggest fights. He’s becoming the reason they happen.
