WASHINGTON, D.C. — A night meant for tradition and political pageantry turned into chaos Saturday, with Dana White finding himself in the middle of a sudden security scare at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The event, held at the Washington Hilton, was abruptly disrupted when Donald Trump was rushed off stage after reports of a potential shooter outside the venue. Moments later, panic spread across the room. Tables were overturned. Security rushed in. Commands to “get down” echoed through the ballroom. White, seated near the front close to where the president had been witnessed it unfold in real time.
White’s Reaction
Speaking afterward, White described the moment with his typical bluntness. “It just started getting noisy… guys running in with guns screaming ‘Get down,’” White said.
“I didn’t get down… it was a pretty crazy, unique experience.” White added that security moved toward his table, raising concerns that the threat could be nearby. “I thought the shooter was over by us or something.”
While details remain limited, President Trump later confirmed in a statement that a suspect had been apprehended. No injuries were reported. Trump also indicated the dinner cut short due to the incident would be rescheduled within 30 days.
The evening was notable even before the disruption. It marked Trump’s first appearance at the Correspondents’ Dinner in over a decade, and his first while serving as president. Instead, the night will be remembered for the sudden shift from ceremony to crisis.
For those inside the ballroom including figures from politics, media, and sports the incident served as a stark reminder of how quickly situations can escalate. For White, it was something else entirely: A front-row seat to a moment he called “crazy” and “unique.”
