Hustlin’ Rebels run-rule Utah Tech 11-1 on Myro walk-off

Parker Dillhoff made sure UNLV never had to sweat Saturday night.

The left-hander tossed a complete game and struck out nine, and Gunnar Myro crushed a walk-off, two-run homer in the seventh to trigger the 10-run rule as UNLV rolled Utah Tech 11-1 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

As a result, the Hustlin’ Rebels improved to 15-8 and snapped a three-game slide. Utah Tech fell to 15-9.

UNLV scored 11 runs on 13 hits and did not commit an error. Utah Tech finished with seven hits.

Three clean innings set the tone

Dillhoff was in control early, and your notes match what the game felt like.

He worked through a second-inning jam with the bases loaded and then handled a runner on third in the third. After that, the momentum stayed on UNLV’s side, because the Trailblazers never got a big inning.

Dillhoff went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits with no walks. He also threw 100 pitches.

UNLV kept adding, then started launching

Drew Barragan opened the scoring in the first with a solo homer to deep right.

In the second, Jonny Rodriguez moved into scoring position, and Jack Salmon ripped an RBI double to left to make it 2-0. The play had an extra twist, too. The ball ate up the Utah Tech left fielder before hopping over the wall for a ground-rule double.

UNLV added another in the third in a rare, heads-up sequence. With Barragan on third, Nin Burns II took off for second. When the throw came down, Burns broke stride and delayed the tag just long enough for Barragan to score before Burns was caught stealing.

That made it 3-0.

In the fourth, UNLV manufactured one more. Cooper Sheff scored when Myro dropped a bunt single in the infield for an RBI.

Then the fifth inning broke it open. Ayden Garcia walked and Rodriguez singled. After that, Sheff launched a three-run homer to deep left to push the lead to 7-0.

The finish was loud

Utah Tech finally scored in the sixth on an RBI groundout, trimming it to 7-1. However, UNLV answered right away when the seventh started.

Garcia led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer to deep center. Soon after, Salmon doubled to right-center to drive in Rodriguez and make it 9-1.

Then Myro ended it. With Salmon on base, Myro crushed a two-run homer to deep left. The walk-off blast made it an 11-1 final and brought the 10-run rule into play.

Numbers that mattered

Rodriguez paced the offense, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Salmon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Myro finished 2-for-2 with three RBI, including the walk-off homer, and also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.

Barragan added the first-inning homer and scored twice.
