The Athletics erupted for another offensive showcase Saturday, blasting the Royals 12-1 at Hohokam Stadium behind a historic afternoon from Shea Langeliers.
Shea Langeliers launched three solo home runs, powering a 15-hit attack while Jacob Lopez dominated on the mound, striking out seven over four scoreless innings.
Oakland improved to 11-12 this spring with the emphatic win.
Langeliers goes deep three times
Langeliers wasted no time setting the tone.
He crushed a solo homer in the first inning, then struck again in the third and capped the hat trick with another blast in the fourth. The catcher finished 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, accounting for half of Oakland’s early offense.
Nick Kurtz joined the homer parade with a solo shot in the fourth, pushing the lead to 4-0. Earlier, Henry Bolte had driven in a run with a second-inning single.
By the time the dust settled, the A’s had four homers and five extra-base hits.
Lopez overwhelms Royals
While the bats stole headlines, Jacob Lopez quietly delivered one of the sharpest pitching lines of the spring.
The left-hander worked four scoreless innings, allowing no hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Kansas City had no answer. Lopez generated swings and misses all afternoon and handed a comfortable lead to the bullpen.
Scott Barlow followed with four strikeouts in relief, and the A’s pitching staff held the Royals to just two hits while striking out 13.
Late avalanche buries Kansas City
The A’s offense kept building throughout the game before blowing things wide open late.
Leo De Vries drove in two runs, Tommy White added two RBIs and Ryan Lasko chipped in an RBI single. Michael Stefanic also brought home a run during a five-run eighth inning that turned the game into a rout.
Oakland finished 6-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
De Vries went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, White had two hits and two RBIs and Cade Marlowe added a double and a stolen base.
