U.S. president Donald Trump continues to promote what could become the most ambitious event in UFC history. On Friday, Trump reiterated plans for the UFC to stage a landmark event on the White House lawn this summer as part of celebrations honoring the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, promising a temporary stadium capable of accommodating more than 100,000 people.
“They are going to put up something that’s really amazing,” Trump said (h/t Fox News and Home of Fight).
“UFC is coming, as you know, in front of the White House. They’re building, literally, a stadium, and going to have over 100,000 people.”
A Grand Vision for America’s 250th Birthday
Trump first announced the concept last year, framing the UFC event as a centerpiece of the nation’s America 250 celebration. UFC CEO Dana White, a longtime ally of Trump, quickly endorsed the idea, and details have steadily emerged in the months since.
White has previously stated that the budget for UFC White House would dwarf the promotion’s recent spectacle at the UFC Sphere in Las Vegas an event rumored to have cost around $20 million calling that figure “chump change” by comparison.
Attendance Plans Still Evolving
While Trump’s latest comments suggest a massive stadium footprint, White has previously outlined a more segmented attendance plan.
Earlier this month, White said current projections called for:
-
Approximately 5,000 attendees on the White House lawn itself
-
An additional 85,000 spectators attending a large-scale viewing experience at The Ellipse, the 52-acre park located just south of the White House
How those plans reconcile with Trump’s promise of a single 100,000-seat stadium remains unclear, though both sides appear aligned on making the event unprecedented in scale.
Matchmaking to Begin Soon
White also revealed earlier this month that matchmaking for UFC White House will officially begin this week, signaling that the promotion is moving from concept to execution.
While no fights have been announced, speculation has already begun regarding which champions and American stars could headline a card designed to blend combat sports, national celebration, and political theater.
If realized as envisioned, UFC White House would represent a first-of-its-kind event not just for mixed martial arts, but for American sports history staged at one of the most recognizable locations in the world.
