Brock Bowers’ stellar season recognized with huge achievement

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers had a rookie season for the ages.

The 13th overall pick out of Georgia, Bowers immediately became the offensive centerpiece for the Raiders. He lead all tight ends this season in receptions (112) and receiving yards (1,194).

Bowers also made history by breaking several rookie and franchise records. He broke a 63-year-old record for receiving yards by a rookie tight end held by Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, as well as records for receptions among all rookies and receptions in a single season in Raiders history.

It is unsurprising that Bowers is being rewarded for his efforts. He was named to the Pro Bowl Games alongside edge rusher Maxx Crosby, and was named to the NFLPA All-Pro team on Wednesday as the only rookie to do so.

Now, Bowers has received another high honor for his outstanding play.

On Friday, Bowers was announced as a first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. He becomes the fourth rookie tight end to do so, and the first since Jeremy Shockey with the New York Giants in 2002.

With this achievement, Bowers becomes the first Raider since punter Shane Lechler in 2000 to be announced as an AP first-team All-Pro.

Bowers is the only Raider to appear on either the first or second teams, but AP’s Josh Dubow reported that he was not the only one to receive votes.

While Bowers is still facing long odds for Offensive Rookie of the Year over Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Bowers being recognized as the best at his position is plenty to be proud of.
