Could the UFC have a Wrestlemania-type event?

@Joe Camporele-USA Today Sports

Picture it: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 7, 2024. Wrestlemania 40. The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is taking on Cody Rhodes for the belt. It’s the main event with “Bloodline” rules, which is essentially anything goes. 1,316 days of dominance reigning over the WWE versus a fresh start.

First Jimmy Uso interferes on behalf of the “Bloodline”, assisting Reigns. Then comes Jey Uso to even the odds. After that, Solo Sikoa does the Samoan Spike on Cody Rhodes, only for the “American Nightmare” to kick out at two. John Cena comes out to stop Sikoa, only for the Rock to enter the fray. Then, Seth Rollins emerges and the Undertaker after.

After all this, Roman Reigns gives a chair shot to Rollins and turns his attention to Rhodes for a spear. Only the challenger was ready, landing three consecutive “Cross Rhodes” maneuvers (his finishing move) for the victory. Everyone is singing in unison to the new champion’s song. Even the ring announcer is crying tears of joy after Cody Rhodes’s long, arduous journey to become the champion is finally realized.

Can the UFC have a Wrestlemania-type event of their own?

The electricity of the event gained popularity over numerous social media platforms. The fans go home happy and a new day has dawned. With the chaotic ending and the build-up to the event, the WWE had a successful Wrestlemania on their hands.

But what’s not to say that the UFC can’t host a similar event to Wrestlemania? Granted, it’s not going to be scripted in any way, shape, or form. After all, the UFC doesn’t follow a script. However, fighters can have acclaimed artists performing their theme songs live. You can also have the best fighters all on one card for one night (or two) only in an NFL stadium.

After all, the WWE and UFC both fall under the same parent company: TKO Holdings. It would make sense to have the best rivalries go down at the event, culminating in a memorable card.

The one drawback to a UFC-style Wrestlemania event

Granted, it’s not going to be the perfect idea. For one, Wrestlemania isn’t just about the matches. It’s about memorable segments and celebrity appearances. For example, George Kittle appeared in the last two Wrestlemanias. This year, he came as a fan and he knocked out the Miz the year prior. The UFC can try such a gimmick in their event. However, it won’t go over as well because the WWE is more of a scripted aspect.

There’s also the fight schedule involved. UFC fighters aren’t like WWE superstars in that they aren’t constantly on the road. They generally have one fight (maybe two) every year. It’s safe to say this idea doesn’t have much of a chance of happening.

However, it would be fun to imagine, say, Conor McGregor coming out to Eminem rapping a new theme song. The success of this year’s Wrestlemania should have Dana White considering the idea of starting the granddaddy of UFC events.
