Just hours after defeating the Seattle Storm on Monday night in Las Vegas, TIME100 released its inaugural Sports list. This list includes star player A’ja Wilson and head coach Becky Hammon.

This recognition underscores Wilson’s status as one of the WNBA’s top players. It also highlights Hammon’s leadership in building a championship-level team in Las Vegas.

A’ja Wilson, with a growing list of accolades and record-breaking achievements, now appears on TIME Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in sports. The city of Las Vegas continues to celebrate her success stories.

Records Broken

This announcement follows Wilson reaching 6,000 career points during the Aces’ game against the Seattle Storm Monday night in Las Vegas. Therefore, this truly marks a highlight for the Las Vegas basketball community.

According to TIME, Wilson “became the first player in WNBA or NBA history to—deep breath—win a championship, claim the scoring title, and be named Finals MVP, league MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.” All of these accomplishments have generated excitement throughout Las Vegas.

These achievements happened the same year Wilson debuted her signature shoe, the A’One. Notably, it is the first from the brand for a Black WNBA player in over 20 years—a milestone celebrated by fans across Las Vegas.

Her signature A’Two was recently released. Additionally, she hinted at upcoming shoe news during Monday’s postgame conference in Las Vegas.

In addition to Wilson, head coach Becky Hammon is also included on the list of the 100 most influential people in sports, an honor that brings pride to Las Vegas sports fans.

Last month, Hammon became the second-fastest coach in WNBA history to reach 150 wins. She did so in 205 games—a remarkable feat noted by the Las Vegas Aces community. Only Houston Comets coach Van Chancellor reached this milestone faster, in 198 games.

According to TIME, Hammon “was already a trailblazer” before joining the WNBA coaching ranks in the 2022 season. Before that, she was hired as the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history by the San Antonio Spurs, but now her leadership is making an impact in Las Vegas.
