MANCHESTER, England — Daniel Dubois answered every question that has ever been asked about him. And he did it the hard way. Dubois climbed off the canvas twice to stop Fabio Wardley in the 11th round of a savage, back-and-forth war Saturday night at Co-op Live Arena, capturing the WBO heavyweight title and becoming a two-time world champion.

This wasn’t just a fight. It was chaos, violence, and heart all rolled into one unforgettable heavyweight showdown. Within seconds of the opening bell, Wardley stunned the arena by dropping Dubois with a crushing overhand right. Moments later, the narrative flipped again.

Early Disaster, Late Redemption

Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs) was knocked down in:

  • Round 1 — clipped high on the head
  • Round 3 — forced to take a knee after another right hand

For a fighter whose toughness has long been questioned, it looked like history might repeat itself. Instead, Dubois dug in. He steadied himself, found his jab, and began to break Wardley down with straight punches and heavy right hands.

Wardley (20-1-1, 19 KOs) showed exactly why he’s built a reputation for resilience and chaos.

  • Survived punishing jabs and uppercuts
  • Fired back in wild exchanges
  • Nearly turned the tide again with a furious rally in Round 7

But the damage began to accumulate. By the middle rounds, Wardley’s face was swollen, blood pouring, yet he refused to back down.

As the fight wore on, Dubois’ cleaner, straighter punching began to take over.

  • Dominated Round 5 with his jab
  • Hurt Wardley repeatedly in Rounds 8 and 9
  • Trapped him on the ropes with sustained pressure

Wardley’s heart never failed him but his body eventually did.

The End Comes in Round 11

Just 28 seconds into the 11th round, Dubois unleashed a crushing left hook that snapped Wardley’s head back. Referee Howard Foster stepped in moments later. Wardley was still standing. But he was done.

For Daniel Dubois, this wasn’t just about winning a belt. It was about proving something deeper. After years of questions about his mentality, Dubois delivered a performance defined by grit, composure, and relentless will.

He will never have to answer those questions again.
