LAS VEGAS — After more than six decades as one of boxing’s most influential promotional companies, Top Rank is entering a new era. Bob Arum’s powerhouse promotion has officially aligned with DAZN widely recognized as the “Global Home of Boxing” signaling a major shift in the sport’s broadcast and promotional landscape. But beyond the business move, the partnership could immediately deliver one of the most compelling fights in boxing’s hottest division.
At the center of Top Rank’s future stands rising star and current 154-pound world champion Xander Zayas. The 23-year-old Puerto Rican standout has quickly built momentum as one of boxing’s brightest young champions, combining skill, composure, and growing star power. With the junior middleweight division heating up, Zayas finds himself surrounded by elite competition and massive opportunities.
Boots Fight Gains Serious Traction
One of those opportunities could be a blockbuster showdown with Jaron “Boots” Ennis. Ennis, widely regarded as one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport, has been searching for a defining fight at 154 pounds after previous negotiations with Vergil Ortiz Jr. failed to materialize.
Now, Top Rank is openly acknowledging that talks are underway. “Yeah, we’re talking about that fight,” said Top Rank executive Todd DuBoef during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. The potential matchup represents a high-risk, high-reward collision between two of the division’s most talented fighters and one that could reshape the 154-pound hierarchy overnight.
While interest from both sides appears genuine, logistics remain a key factor. “I’m not sure Puerto Rico’s the place to do [the Boots fight],” DuBoef said. “In a perfect world, I love New York for that fight, but the availability is difficult.”
New York particularly Madison Square Garden has long been a traditional stage for Puerto Rican stars, but scheduling hurdles could force promoters to explore alternative venues. Regardless of location, the appetite for the fight is clear. “Xander wants the fight,” DuBoef added.
A Division Loaded with Dangerous Names
The 154-pound division continues to be boxing’s most stacked weight class, featuring champions and contenders across multiple promotional banners. Names like Josh Kelly, Vergil Ortiz Jr., and Ennis all sit near the top of the division creating a rare scenario where elite fights are not only possible, but necessary. For Zayas, stepping in with Ennis would represent a defining moment a chance to prove he belongs among boxing’s elite rather than just its rising stars.
Perhaps most significant is the willingness from all sides to make the fight happen. “I know that Matchroom and DAZN would love to see Boots get that fight,” DuBoef said. In an era where promotional barriers have historically stalled major fights, this level of cooperation signals a broader shift in boxing one where platforms like DAZN are pushing for the biggest matchups regardless of promotional alignment.
