Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo made NBA history Tuesday night, scoring a career-high 83 points and surpassing Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point performance for the second-most points in a single NBA game.
Adebayo accomplished the feat during Miami’s 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards. He went 20-for-43 from the field, 7-for-22 from 3-point range and 36-for-43 at the free-throw line in 42 minutes.
A’ja Wilson Reacts to Bam Adebayo’s Historic Night
Among those in attendance for the historic performance was his girlfriend and Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson, who watched courtside as the Heat center chased history.
After the game, Wilson joined Adebayo and spoke about his performance.
“I know he says that I’m his inspiration,” Wilson said. “But I don’t think he has a clue how much he inspires me to continue to be the person I am.”
Additionally, she said being present for the moment meant a lot to her.
“I knew I just wanted to be there to show my support,” Wilson said via the Miami Herald. “But this has been an incredible game, obviously, and a journey for Bam. Witnessing it firsthand, the highs and lows of it, has been so much fun.”
Wilson is widely considered one of the best players in WNBA history. With the Aces, she has built an impressive resume that includes three WNBA championships and multiple MVP awards. In addition, she is tied with Liz Cambage for the WNBA record for most points in a single game after scoring 53.
Bam Adebayo on Wilson Support
Following his historic night, Adebayo expressed his gratitude for Wilson’s support.
“Behind the scenes, the workouts and the conversations, they’re very motivating,” Adebayo said Tuesday. “Obviously, you see what she does, and you get inspired every day by that. So, I’m thankful to have her in my life.”
So far this season, Adebayo is averaging 20.0 points per game and 9.8 rebounds while shooting 44.8% from the field for a 37-28 Miami Heat team.
Wilson also spoke about the importance of showing up to support Adebayo.
“To show up for him, that’s my biggest goal, to always just be present and show up for him,” Wilson said. “And I was a little mad that you got your 10K and I wasn’t here, but you made up for it. And I’m grateful that God is really, really special to him. God doesn’t play about Bam.”
