LONDON — Daniel Dubois made another emphatic statement in boxing’s heavyweight division Saturday night, delivering a devastating second-round stoppage of Fabio Wardley to successfully defend his WBO heavyweight championship.
Five months after stopping Wardley in the 11th round of their first encounter, Dubois needed less than two rounds to settle the score again, showcasing the explosive punching power that has made him one of the most feared heavyweights in boxing.
Dubois improved to 24-3 with 23 knockouts, while Wardley fell to 20-2-1 with 19 knockouts. From the opening bell, there was little doubt about the champion’s intentions. Dubois came forward aggressively, applying relentless pressure and refusing to give Wardley an opportunity to establish his rhythm.
Dubois Wastes No Time
The defending champion immediately imposed his physical strength, connecting with a powerful right hand that sent Wardley to the canvas during the first half of the opening round.
Although Wardley returned to his feet and attempted to regain control behind his jab, Dubois continued marching forward. The champion repeatedly forced Wardley backward, unloading heavy punches and preventing the challenger from finding any offensive consistency.
Late in the first round, Dubois trapped Wardley against the ropes and unleashed another punishing combination. The assault was so overwhelming that Wardley’s trainer, Ben Davison, stood in the corner holding a towel, seemingly prepared to stop the contest.
The bell ultimately provided Wardley with a temporary escape. However, the damage had already been done.
Wardley’s Corner Makes the Decision
Any hopes of a dramatic comeback quickly disappeared in the second round. Dubois resumed his attack, moving forward with confidence while displaying impressive agility for a heavyweight known primarily for his destructive power.
Wardley attempted to respond with punches of his own, but the champion’s pressure proved overwhelming. As Dubois continued backing his opponent toward the ropes, Davison decided he had seen enough.
The trainer threw in the towel, bringing the fight to an abrupt conclusion and handing Dubois another impressive knockout victory. It was a decisive performance from a champion determined to leave no questions about his superiority in the rematch.
Dubois Declares His Era Has Arrived
Following the victory, Dubois celebrated with the same confidence he displayed after his memorable knockout of Anthony Joshua in 2024. “Are you not entertained?” Dubois shouted during his postfight interview.
The champion made it clear that his aggressive approach was intentional. “Fabio is a great boy, coming in for the second time, but it was my time and my era,” Dubois said. “I had my intentions, bad intentions from the beginning.”
Dubois also reflected on the difference between their two meetings. “My back was against the wall the first time, this time we just had to go out there and show that we mean business, which is what we did tonight.”
What’s Next for the Heavyweight Champion?
With another successful title defense behind him, Dubois continues strengthening his position among boxing’s elite heavyweights. His combination of youth, physical strength and devastating knockout power makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone competing at the championship level.
For Wardley, the loss represents another difficult setback against a familiar opponent. Despite entering the rematch hoping to reverse the result of their first encounter, he was unable to withstand the champion’s relentless offense.
For Dubois, however, Saturday night was about more than retaining a championship. It was about making a statement. Daniel Dubois didn’t just defeat Fabio Wardley for a second time. He reminded the heavyweight division that his power can end a championship fight at any moment.
