Deontay Wilder: “He didn’t win nothing they gave it to him.”

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is still unsettled by how his trilogy with Tyson Fury unfolded and he’s now leveling fresh accusations against his longtime rival.

Speaking on Mr Verzace Podcast from The Ring Magazine, Deontay Wilder alleged that Tyson Fury cheated in two of their three fights.

“He didn’t win nothing they gave it to him,” Wilder said around the 25:45 mark of the episode. “I can’t think about the third one, but the two of them, he definitely cheated. I got proof and evidence of that. When I do my documentary and my movie about it, it’s gonna be presented. … The man cheated. He’s the biggest cheater in boxing history. If you look him up, you’ll see it.”

Revisiting a Defining Rivalry

Wilder entered his first meeting with Fury in December 2018 unbeaten at 40-0. The bout appeared destined for a Wilder victory when he scored a thunderous knockdown in the 12th round, only for Fury to rise and survive to the final bell. The fight was ruled a split-decision draw, allowing Wilder to retain his WBC title.

The next two encounters swung decisively in Fury’s favor. In February 2020, Fury stopped Wilder via seventh-round TKO to claim the WBC belt. Their October 2021 trilogy bout ended with Fury scoring an 11th-round knockout in one of the era’s most punishing heavyweight fights.

Where They Stand Now

Since the back-to-back defeats, Wilder has gone 2-2 in four outings, most recently stopping Tyrrell Anthony Herndon in the seventh round last June. He’s scheduled to return April 4 against Derek Chisora at O2 Arena.

Fury, who has announced retirements on multiple occasions, is also set for an April return. It was revealed last month that he’ll face Arslanbek Makhmudov in the United Kingdom on April 11.

Whether Wilder’s allegations are ever substantiated remains to be seen. For now, both veterans are focused on preparing for their respective spring assignments each adding another chapter to careers already defined by controversy, resilience, and heavyweight drama.
