Raiders loss apparently considered final straw for head coach

The Las Vegas Raiders notched their second win of the season against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and that was more than enough justification for their vanquished foe to make franchise-altering moves.

According to multiple sources, the Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday after losing to the Raiders.

While the Raiders did not always run the cleanest of plays, the Titans never felt like they in danger of taking the game away. When asked about the team’s performance, Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons raised some eyebrows with his comments about the buildup to the game.

“In this league, you have to learn how to be able to stack wins and carry that momentum over,” Simmons said. “It started at practice. Just being honest, this was probably one of our worst weeks of practice. We came out flat Thursday. Sometimes things carry over.”

When a star player starts dropping brutally honest quotes like that after games, it reflects poorly on the culture building within the locker room.

Keep in mind that the Raiders entered the game with some discord in their own right. Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly seemed to have different views on how the offense should be run, and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham seemed to be the only figure taking full accountability for any struggles. However, all units managed to coexist to a strong enough degree to put together a convincing win, and the Raiders get to keep the harmony in their group for at least another week.

The Raiders may have had to take advantage of a dysfunctional opponent to get back in the win column, but they will undoubtedly take what they can get at this stage of the season.
