The domestic violence case against undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis has been dropped after the alleged victim his ex-girlfriend and mother of his two children declined to move forward with prosecution, TMZ reported Tuesday.
Davis, 30, was accused of striking the woman in the head. While slapping her during a June 15 incident in South Florida. According to police, the alleged confrontation occurred during a verbal argument as Davis was picking up his children. He was arrested on July 11 and booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center before being released on a $10,000 bond.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office confirmed the case’s dismissal, stating.
“This case was dropped as the victim is declining to prosecute, per her victim attorney… The witness to the incident, who is the victim’s mother, also failed to cooperate and failed [to appear] after being subpoenaed… The incident itself was not observed by the police officer who had been called to the scene, eliminating him as a possible witness to what had transpired.”
A hearing had been scheduled for July 29 with an arraignment set for August 12, but the case will no longer proceed.
A History of Legal Troubles
This is not the first time Davis has faced legal issues. He remains on probation for a 2020 hit-and-run in Baltimore that injured four people. In recent years, he has also been involved in other legal disputes and arrests, though he has remained unbeaten in the ring.
Career Uncertainty
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) had been expected to return to the ring this summer. In a rematch against Lamont Roach Jr. The fight was initially targeted for June 21. Then August 16, but was never officially announced. The two fought to a controversial majority draw in March, a result that sparked immediate calls for a rematch.
With the case now dropped, Davis may resume focusing on boxing. Though neither he nor his camp have publicly addressed when or if the Roach rematch will be rescheduled.
