Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul breaks records

The circus that we called Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul set two records last Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Boxing fans were truly invested in seeing who would come out on top. Would the famous YouTube boxer be able to beat arguably the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time? Or would the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion be able to prove why he was the most feared man on the planet?

Fans placed more bets and wagered more money on Friday night’s heavyweight fight in Arlington, Texas than any other boxing match or MMA fight in sportsbook BetMGM’s history. Tyson-Paul attracted four times as much money wagered as any other combat sporting event at BetMGM, the sportsbook said Monday in a news release. Other betting outlets chimed in on action placed. Craig Mucklow, Vice President of trading for Caesars Sportsbook released a statement.

“We knew there would be tremendous interest in the fight. As the betting suggested it was a generational matchup in customer demographics,” Mucklow said. “Those old enough to remember a prime Mike Tyson got to live the nostalgia one last time, while those young enough not to know who Iron Mike was were firmly on the Jake Paul side of the counter.”

Biggest gate ever outside of Vegas

Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions produced the biggest gate for a combat sporting event outside of Las Vegas ever. The fight brought in $18,117,072 in total revenue, which shattered the previous record in Texas set by Canelo Alvarez’s 2021 showdown with Billy Joe Saunders at $9 million.

The event was also a massive success on Netflix, despite the widespread buffering issues, with 60 million households watching Netflix’s first-ever live sporting event.

“Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 rewrote the record books, solidifying Most Valuable Promotions as a trailblazer in combat sports,” Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, said in a statement. “From setting the highest gate outside of Las Vegas in U.S. history for a combat sports event to becoming the most streamed sporting event in U.S. history. This event is a testament to the global impact of Jake Paul, Mike Tyson, Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, and the incredible athletes on this card.”

Without a doubt, the fight did not live up to the hype. But everyone involved got exactly what they wanted and that’s numbers. Mike Tyson reportedly will earn a guarantee of 20 million dollars. Jake Paul reportedly is guaranteed to make at least $40 million. Like it or not, this fight was a resounding success.
