A’s Owner pledges $1 billion for new Las Vegas Stadium

Oakland Athletics owner John Fisher and his family plan to invest $1 billion in developing a new stadium in Las Vegas.

Additionally, U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs are set to provide a $300 million loan, as shared by club executive Sandy Dean during a special Las Vegas Stadium Authority board meeting on Thursday.

Construction is anticipated to start in the spring, with hopes for completion before the 2028 season.

Up to $380 million in public funds will be allocated for the stadium’s construction. It will be located on the Las Vegas Strip at the site of the recently demolished Tropicana.

Dean announced that four letters will be presented at the authority meeting scheduled for December 5, detailing construction plans and confirming financing arrangements.

Final approvals are anticipated to be granted at this meeting, paving the way for the construction of the $1.5 billion, 33,000-seat domed ballpark.

“We feel like we’re on the right path and it will become clearer in the months ahead,” Dean told the board, according to the Associated Press.

The Athletics are leaving Oakland after 57 years.

The Athletics are set to remain in West Sacramento, California, for at least the next three seasons.

On Thursday, the team revealed that for the 2025 season, they plan to hold 60 of their 81 home games at night, with 11-day games scheduled for April and May.

This decision seems to address concerns about the extreme heat often experienced in Sacramento.

Earlier this summer, the city experienced its hottest 20-day period on record, with average temperatures reaching 103.8 degrees from June 23 to July 12.

If the Athletics go ahead with this plan, the 60-night games would match the franchise record set by the 1968 team for the most night games in a single season.

The Athletics will share Sutter Health Park with the Triple-A River Cats, an affiliate of the Giants.

To avoid schedule conflicts, Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball have coordinated to ensure that both teams do not have home games on the same day.
