Boxing And UFC Clash

Something rare is happening in Las Vegas tonight. UFC 306 will be live tonight at the Sphere and Canelo Alvarez will be will be defending his title at the T-Mobile Arena tonight.

So with this being such a rare occurrence, how did this actually happen? Mexican Independence Day weekend is a huge fight weekend. Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have made numerous appearances on that weekend and Canelo has taken over that spot since Floyd has retired. Dana White throws his events in at the T-Mobile Arena and when Canelo fights in Vegas. Since the T-Mobile Arena has opened the venue has been Canelo’s new home.

Dana White scheduled UFC 306 in Las Vegas and he wanted the T-Mobile Arena but Al Haymon and Premier Boxing Champions(PBC) was able to successful obtain the venue for the same date of UFC 306.

UFC loses out to PBC

Dana White was very upset with MGM for not allowing him to obtain the date and voiced his displeasure in the decision.

“Haymon snatched that date right away from me. The guys at MGM have done nothing but (expletive) disrespect me and the UFC for 20 years. It is what it is. Here we go.”

The T-Mobile Arena had housed four UFC pay-per-view events in each of the past two years but after PBC and Canelo reserved the September 14 date with MGM Resorts International, White was forced to pivot to The Sphere. Don’t be surprised moving forward that the UFC will target more events at the Sphere

“PBC is thrilled to continue the more than 20-year tradition of championship boxing in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day weekend with our friends and partners, MGM Resorts and T-Mobile Arena,” a PBC spokesperson told said.

Fight fans shouldn’t have to chose between the UFC MMA and PBC Boxing. As a fight fan you can truly have it all and enjoy both. Either way whatever you’re looking for, the fight capitol of the world has you covered.
