Manny Pacquiao open to fighting Conor Mcgregor?

@Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA Today Sports

Manny Pacquiao is one of boxing’s most beloved figures. He’s a reserved fighter who carries the hopes and dreams of every Filipino citizen. On top of that, he’s become one of the most decorated fighters, dominating numerous weight classes. Take your pick from his conquests: flyweight, featherweight, lightweight… Pacquiao has done it all.

However, the boxing legend’s itching to return to the ring. He has a fighter in mind…and they’re both named Conor. One is Conor Benn, a 27-year-old British fighter who’s undefeated (23-0). It’s no disrespect to Benn: He’s an incredible boxer with a bright future ahead. Unfortunately, he’s not the more famous Conor in this discussion.

Manny Pacquiao wants Conor McGregor, too

Yes, you read that right. Manny Pacquiao wants to fight Conor McGregor as well. It would be an electric fight on par with Pacquiao’s bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight was the highest-grossing pay-per-view in history, with $410 million being brought in. In fact, people across the United States (and the Philippines) were talking about the “Fight of the Century”.

Could McGregor-Pacquiao bring in the same revenue? It could be, for the legendary boxer carries significant weight in the Philippines. During his fight with Mayweather Jr., half of the Filipino households watched the fight, pulling for a Pacquiao victory. However, there is one thing McGregor has over Mayweather Jr. that could skyrocket the fight to new heights.

It could be even bigger than thought

One thing that Conor McGregor has over Floyd Mayweather is global appeal. He’s an athlete who transcends sports, starring in feature movies and becoming an entrepreneur. From his trash-talking to his fighting ability, there’s good reason to believe the fight will shatter numerous records with the Irishman on board. McGregor has become bigger than fighting himself, with a larger-than-life personality and fans across the world.

Imagine if that bombastic personality faced off against the quiet, humble man, Manny Pacquiao. It would create interesting drama, with the Irishman talking his usual smack. Spectators would watch on, wondering how the Filipino legend would respond. It’s an incredible viewing with the potential to shatter numerous records. But will Pacquiao follow through with his request? Stay tuned.
