The Potential Of Jack Jones

Jack Jones and the Las Vegas Raiders could end up being the perfect match. Jones 26, was released by the New England Patriots on November 13th, 2023. Team officials claimed that the release was due to multiple incidents. The first incident occurred in June when two guns were discovered in Jones carry-on luggage leading to his arrest, charges were eventually dropped. The second incident occurred in Frankfort Germany, for their NFL Europe game against the Indianapolis Colts on November 5th where he only played 10 snaps due to missing curfew. Jones becoming disgruntled with the team led to his release a week later.

Jones said about his departure from the Patriots. “I would say it wasn’t the best fit, I can’t really speak too much about it, just because I’m not on the coaching staff. I can’t call it. Just wasn’t the best fit, but I’m glad to be here.”

Following the release, Jones was picked up on waivers by the Las Vegas Raiders on November 14th. This symbolized a fresh start for Jones, but this was made possible by a familiar face. Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce was Jones Head Coach in High School at Long Beach Poly. In College he was his Defensive Coordinator at Arizona State. “The kid’s been through a lot,” said Pierce. “I’ve known him since he was very young, I’ve seen the growth of development. Nobody’s perfect, I don’t expect him to be perfect. That’s my job as well, to bring him along and our staff and our organization to help him if he needs be. But the football player is extremely gifted, and I expect him to do such when he gets here.”

With only seven games left, Jones was trying to find his way on his new team. As time went on, you could see him getting more comfortable. In just seven games, it became clear that Jones could be a very important piece of the Raiders secondary. On Christmas Day against the Kansas City Chiefs, his pick six on Patrick Mahomes showcased his potential to the country.

“Again, I’ve known Jack since he was 13, and he just keeps rising, and there’s still more there,” Pierce said. “Gaining some weight, first and foremost, get this little sucker in the weight room, get him bigger. But what he brought to our team when he got here was the swag, the confidence, that go-getter mentality, to go make plays, anticipating, film study.”

The Raiders hope they can continue to get the best out of Jones. Pierce has done a great job surrounding him with a great support system that will allow Jones to grow on and off the field. Seeing a confident Jack Jones on the football field could spell trouble for opposing quarterbacks.
