Charles Oliveira delivered one of the most suffocating performances of his career Saturday night, overwhelming Max Holloway with relentless grappling to capture the “BMF” title in the UFC 326 main event. Across five rounds, Oliveira repeatedly dragged Holloway to the mat, controlling position and threatening submissions in a dominant showing that earned him a 50–45 unanimous decision victory.
The blueprint for the fight became clear almost immediately. Just moments into the opening round, Oliveira closed the distance, locked up a body clinch, and tossed Holloway to the canvas. From there, the Brazilian began hunting submissions a pattern that would repeat throughout the entire fight.
Every time Holloway managed to create space or return to his feet, Oliveira quickly:
Holloway spent most of the fight defending from bottom position while Oliveira methodically drained his energy.
Respect Between Warriors
Despite the one-sided nature of the fight, Oliveira showed deep respect for his opponent afterward. “I respect you so much… If this division has two BMFs, those BMFs are Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway.”
Holloway echoed the sentiment after the bout. “You’ve got to give it up for Oliveira. Hell of a fighter, a true BMF.”
To his credit, Holloway never stopped fighting. Even while trapped underneath Oliveira’s relentless grappling, the Hawaiian continued defending submission attempts and trying to scramble back to his feet. At one point, Holloway briefly landed on top during a late exchange, but Oliveira quickly reversed the position and resumed control. It was a rare night where Holloway’s famed volume striking simply never got started.
Title Picture Ahead
With the victory, Oliveira moves right back into the heart of the lightweight title conversation.
Possible next steps include:
-
Winner of Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje at the upcoming White House card
-
A rematch with Arman Tsarukyan, who edged Oliveira via split decision at UFC 300
After reclaiming momentum and adding the “BMF” belt to his résumé, Oliveira made it clear he’s ready for another run at the undisputed lightweight title. “Hunter Campbell, if there’s another fight at the White House or anything for the title, you know where to find me.”
