In typical bold fashion, Donald Trump floated a headline grabbing proposal. Hosting a UFC event on the White House lawn to celebrate America’s 250th Independence Day.
According to Trump, the White House grounds could “hold up to 20,000 people” and would be a fitting venue for a historic spectacle. While that number is logistically questionable, the symbolic message is clear: merge patriotism, combat sports, and showmanship all into one explosive celebration.
Trump has a long standing relationship with UFC President Dana White, who has publicly supported him for years. Trump himself has been a visible presence at major UFC events, often sitting cage-side and receiving huge ovations (and sometimes boos).
“So every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250. And I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight,” Trump said.
″Think of this on the grounds of the White House,” he said, adding that it would be a “full fight” with 20,000 to 25,000 people.
Intriguing But unlikely
Although highly unlikely, the idea of a UFC event being held at the White House is undeniably intriguing. The mere possibility sparks the imagination. Fighters walking out under the American flag, cage lights illuminating the South Lawn, and an iconic backdrop unmatched by any venue in the world.
For many fighters, the opportunity to compete on the grounds of the White House. A place that once seemed untouchable in the world of sports would be surreal. But no doubt, fighters from every division would be lining up for a spot on that card.
