Jon Jones Retired For 14 Days?

In the latest twist in the unpredictable saga of Jon Jones, the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion is once again hinting at a return to the Octagon. Just two weeks after announcing his retirement from MMA, Jones (28–1 MMA, 22–1 UFC) has reportedly re-entered the UFC’s anti-doping testing pool, a clear indication that he’s leaving the door wide open for a comeback.

This development adds another chapter to what has become a bizarre and fluid retirement timeline for the 37 year old legend. Known for both his dominance inside the cage and his drama outside of it. Jones has kept fans and potential opponents guessing about his future.

Jon Jones continues to blur the line between retirement and return. In a recent post, the former UFC two division champion revealed,

“Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we’d keep everyone’s options open.”

The move comes shortly after Jones, 37, announced his retirement, leaving fans and the MMA world unsure of what’s next. But re-entering the UFC anti-doping testing pool suggests that a comeback remains very possible. Under UFC’s anti doping policy, any athlete who notifies the promotion of retirement must undergo 180 days of testing before returning unless the UFC grants an exemption. Jones’ brief exit and quick return to the pool could accelerate his eligibility, should he opt to fight again.

Back Again and for who?

Let’s see if Jones officially announces that he’s stepping back into the Octagon. Or is he maybe just messing with everyone knowing that everyone still wants to see him fight Tom Aspinall. But don’t be surprised if Francis Ngannou comes back to the UFC and Jon Jones signs to fight him. Jones has repeatedly stated that he’s interested in fighting Ngannou.
