The Charlotte Hornets will play the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday as part of the NBA Cup group stage.
The Nets currently have an overall record of 5-9 and a home record of 3-3. In comparison, the Hornets are 5-8 overall and have struggled on the road with a 1-5 record.
Both teams are 0-1 in East Group A of the 2024 NBA in-season tournament.
The Nets recently lost to the New York Knicks, 124-122, while the Hornets suffered a defeat against the Orlando Magic, 114-89, marking their first games in the 2024 NBA Cup.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets have had a solid start to the season. Over the last five matchups, they’ve held opponents to under 110 points per game.
They’ve won against teams like the Indiana Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks, showing that if they continue to play strong defense, they can secure more victories.
Most recently, the Hornets faced a 128-114 defeat against the hot and undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

The Cavaliers are on a historic 15-0 start to the season.
Earlier this season, Charlotte edged out the Bucks 115-114, overcoming a four-point underdog status.
With his outstanding performances lately, point guard LaMelo Ball is showcasing why he’s considered one of the league’s rising stars.
The third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft ranks fifth in the league, averaging 29.7 points per game. He has surpassed the 30-point mark in four of his last five games.
After struggling with injuries that limited him to just 58 out of 164 games over the past two seasons (35.8%), Ball is now healthy and playing at an elite level, which could pose challenges for Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets have been favored in only three of their 14 games this season. They have won two of those matchups and covered the spread in both victories.
Brooklyn is currently on a three-game losing streak. Two of those defeats came against a solid New York Knicks team, and the third came against the defending NBA champions the Boston Celtics.
In their first game of the 2024 NBA in-season tournament, Brooklyn nearly upset the Knicks as 8.5-point underdogs, ultimately falling short in a 124-122 loss.

Looking ahead, the Nets should find opportunities to score in this game. The Hornets ranked 7th in the NBA among the teams, allowing the highest field goal percentage this season.
Additionally, opponents commit the eighth-fewest turnovers against the Hornets, indicating that Charlotte struggles to limit scoring opportunities.
This trend spells trouble for them against a capable Brooklyn squad. If the Nets find their rhythm, they have a solid chance of coming out on top.
Keep an eye on shooting guard Cam Thomas for Brooklyn. He currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 24.6 points per game.
While he may not contribute extensively in other stat categories, he has the potential to score over 30 points a game if opposing teams aren’t careful.
With a shooting percentage of 45.8% and an average of 17.8 field goals attempted per game, his performance on Tuesday night could be crucial for the Nets’ chances of winning.
Hornets-Nets Best Bet
If you examine the teams leading the league in offensive efficiency, the Nets stand out as the only team in the top 10 with a record under .500.
Although they’ve faced challenges on the defensive end, they have a favorable matchup against Charlotte, as their size allows them to keep the Hornets at a distance from the basket.
Expect the Nets to leverage their perimeter defense to secure a win against the Hornets. The Nets are -150 on the moneyline but are only 2.5 point favorites on the spread.
I think the Nets win this one, and the spread seems like a much better value than the moneyline. The Nets -2.5 points at -110 odds at BetMGM is the best bet in this one.
