The Las Vegas Raiders released edge rusher Charles Snowden, who has subsequently joined a new team.

The Las Vegas Raiders are making significant roster changes ahead of training camp, which begins in one month. Notably, a former Raiders player has recently joined another team.

On Thursday, former Raiders edge rusher Charles Snowden signed with the Detroit Lions, addressing Detroit’s need for depth at the edge position. Based on his previous performance, Snowden is expected to contribute as a rotational player rather than as a starter.

The Raiders waived defensive end Charles Snowden, offensive guard McClendon Curtis, tight end Matt Lauter, and offensive guard Layden Robinson. Snowden’s release was unexpected, given his 18 starts over the past two seasons, though many of these opportunities resulted from team injuries and roster challenges.

While Snowden’s experience could have provided valuable depth, his departure creates opportunities for rookie edge rusher Keyron Crawford, who may become a key contributor to the pass rush. This move could benefit the Raiders by allowing younger talent to develop, despite not being widely anticipated.

In Detroit, Snowden is expected to compete for playing time with the second unit, alongside DJ Wonnum and Payton Turner, both of whom have relevant experience. The additions of Snowden and rookie edge rusher Derrick Moore strengthen the Lions’ pass rush depth.
