PWHL Las Vegas has enhanced its roster by signing defender Erin Ambrose and forward Hayley Scamurra, both of whom bring significant championship experience, as announced by the team on Monday.
Ambrose has agreed to a two-year contract, while Scamurra has signed a three-year deal following her previous season with the Walter Cup champion Montreal Victoire.
Scamurra, 31, is originally from Buffalo, New York. She recorded four points for Montreal during the playoffs last season, having participated in all 30 regular season games.
She has accumulated 14 goals and 29 points over 79 career games since being selected in the fifth round by the Ottawa Charge in 2023.
Ambrose and Scamurra’s History
Scamurra is the first player to win both a gold medal and a Walter Cup within the same season. She is among 14 PWHL players who have achieved Olympic gold, IIHF World Championship gold, and a Walter Cup.
This marks Scamurra’s fourth team in as many years. She was traded to Toronto in December 2024 and subsequently signed with Montreal in June 2025.
Ambrose, 32, contributed two assists in nine playoff games last year. As the sixth overall pick in the inaugural PWHL draft in 2023, she has recorded 37 points in 73 career games with the Victoire.
A native of Keswick, Ontario, Ambrose holds a plus-24 rating, the highest among defenders in league history. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won gold with Hockey Canada in 2022 and silver in 2026.
With the addition of Scamurra and Ambrose, Las Vegas now has four players signed through the six-phase expansion distribution process. The team previously signed former Minnesota Frost defenders Mae Batherson and Kendall Cooper to two-year contracts on Saturday.
Each expansion team is permitted to acquire up to five players through a combination of signings and the player selection process.
The fifth player, Hilary Knight, will be transferred to expansion Detroit as part of a sign-and-trade agreement. In exchange, Las Vegas will receive a first-round pick from Detroit for the PWHL Draft on June 17.
