Paseo Verde Little League stayed unbeaten in Williamsport with a 5-0 win over Soundview Little League of Tacoma, Washington, on Sunday at Lamade Stadium.
Brooks McFarland and Logan Edwards combined on a two-hit shutout, while Henderson broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Paseo Verde improved to 2-0 in the Little League World Series and has outscored its first two opponents 11-5.
McFarland escapes early trouble
Soundview threatened immediately against McFarland.
Kasen Workman and Rhonan Loomis opened the game with walks before Paxton Hansen drew another with one out to load the bases. McFarland responded by striking out Winston Weaver before Evan Yarbrough lined out to right to end the inning.
From there, McFarland settled in.
He allowed only two hits across five scoreless innings, walked four and struck out five. Soundview did not record its first hit until the fifth.
McFarland has now thrown 5 2/3 scoreless innings across Paseo Verde’s first two games in Williamsport.
Henderson finally breaks through
Paseo Verde had chances early but could not score against Workman.
Owen Guzman and Jace Ward singled in the first before Workman escaped. James Esber walked in the second, while Michael Guerrero singled in the third.
That changed quickly in the fifth.
Logan Edwards and Michael Kleiner opened the inning with bunt singles. A wild pitch moved both runners before Edwards scored on an error by third baseman Tyler Landry.
Esber followed with a single to right, then Adrian Cruz lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Kleiner for a 2-0 lead.
Payton Hinsen dropped a bunt single in front of Workman, allowing Esber to score. Hinsen advanced to second on a throwing error.
Carsynn Meyer followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Hinsen and extending the lead to 4-0.
Guzman added another single before Hudson Cowley hit a ground-ball single to left. Meyer scored on an error by left fielder Quinn Herchold, making it 5-0.
Edwards finishes the shutout
Edwards took over in the sixth and retired all three batters he faced.
He struck out Smith Huteson, got Tyler Landry to pop out to first baseman Maddox Bryan and ended the game by striking out Casey Granlund looking.
Edwards has thrown 2 1/3 scoreless innings over Paseo Verde’s first two games.
Henderson’s pitching staff has now worked eight consecutive scoreless innings dating to Friday’s 6-5 walk-off victory over West Side Little League of Hamilton, Ohio.
Henderson controls both sides
Paseo Verde finished with 11 hits and did not commit an error.
Guzman led the offense by going 2-for-3, improving to 3-for-6 through two games in Williamsport. Cowley, Ward, McFarland, Edwards, Kleiner, Esber, Hinsen, Meyer and Guerrero each added a hit Sunday.
Henderson has collected 17 hits through its first two games while allowing nine.
After needing a late comeback to win its opener, Paseo Verde followed with a shutout to continue its run through the United States bracket.

Paseo Verde will face Davenport Northwest Little League of Iowa, the Midwest Region champion, at noon PDT Wednesday at Lamade Stadium.
Davenport advanced with a 6-0 win over the Metro Region on Sunday. Paseo Verde enters the matchup 2-0 in Williamsport after outscoring its first two opponents 11-5.
